Introduction – Landsverordening Normering topinkomens (deel I)
As a result of Aruba’s financial an economic crisis caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, the Council of Ministers in the Dutch Kingdom have decided to provide Aruba with liquidity support. One of the conditions pertaining to this liquidity support was that the remuneration and/or salaries of top officials working in the public and semi-public sector had to be restricted to a certain amount to be determined by law.
This condition has officially gone into force on July 4th 2022 in the National Ordinance regarding the standard remuneration of top officials at government institutions (Landsverordening Normering Topinkomens). As a result of this legislation the remuneration of a top official has been capped at an amount determined by this national ordinance. This amount may be changed by a national decree containing general measures, in the event that the wage development gives cause to do so. However, until this day such national decree has not been granted.
